A 3D building done entirely with curves

I always love to experiment with less standard ways to create things. Here`s one of these experiments. I needed some dystopian looking, brutalist buildings for few of my scenes to use in the background. Instead of modeling them in the standard way I have made the vector drawing in Illustrator and exported the drawing as a SVG base for later use in Blender. After some extruding of the curve shapes and setting up the fully procedural materials the building was done. Of course modeling them traditionally would give me more flexibility and the final result would not be that boxy, but in the end that suits the brutalist aesthetics and also I was way too curious on how far can I push the usage of vector 2D graphics in the pipe line of creating something in 3D. In the end I can say that the building is mostly for the background usage only... but hey, I had a lot of fun messing around with such dumb idea and in the long run no polygons were harmed while conducting this immoral experiment 😆😆😆

Final result building fragment render with some Photoshop post-production. I have added a fictional corporation logo for the nice dystopian cyberpunk vibes (logo was made as an SVG as well and imported to Blender after I finished the building)

That`s how all curve shapes extruded and placed in the right way looked together (Blender Evee)

Some procedural concrete shading, not the best one out there but for the background purposes that should do the trick.

And here`s a vector drawing what later was extruded in Blender. Every color and shade is a different but single object, that`s why why while extruding the windows panel I extruded all of them at the same time etc
